A series of 20 local and regional football tournaments was held in 12 regionals of Poland on occasion of the Special Olympics European Football Week. In total, over 200 male, female and Unified football teams took part.
Amongst the highlights of the week were the Special Olympics announcements and promotion during the Polish Football League "Extraklasa" matches. After pre-match introductions, team players were introduced to the pitch by Special Olympics athletes. The first match was played in Zabrze, where Gornik Zabrze and Polonia Bytom played against each others. Legia Warszawa and LKS Lodz teams played in the last game in Warsaw.
"This year again, my friends from the football family supported Special Olympcs athletes," said Roman Kosecki, European Football Ambassador for Special Olympics Poland. "... It's fantastic!"
