Inclusion Europe promotes the rights of individuals with disabilities. Sandrine Genecot and Soufiane El Amrani, two of its self-representatives, and their support person Beatrice Paquet came to visit the offices of Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia in Brussels on May 6.
In effort to better understand civil and public society, the self-advocates have already interviewed various organizations, including the European Parliament, the Belgian Parliament and various organizations for the disabled. "Special Olympics is very interesting," they said. "For those who like to do sports like me," said El Amrani, a former paralympic swimmer himself, "sports is a great way to increase self confidence. It is good that so many people in Europe can participate."
In an effort to be more accessible to individuals with intellectual disabilities, Genecot and El Amrani suggested that Special Olympics should try and write in easy-to-read language. Click here for more on easy-to-read language.
