Three events and great success for the 9th European Football Week in Luxembourg, in which athletes from the two national training centers participated.
Two training sessions were organized between Special Olympics athletes and some of the top football players in the country. New contacts were made and others strengthened: Fons Leweck, Claude Reiter, Carlos Ferreira and Eric Hoffmann amongst others, invited Special Olympics to join them at the first league club of Etzella Ettelbruck, while the under 21 national team greeted athletes at the national football center of Mondercange.
Four national teams and three teams from Germany and France participated in a Unified Tournament in Luxembourg City. Three board members of the national football federation were present. Young female players from CS Sanem club, a long time supporter of Special Olympics Luxembourg were partners on the Luxembourgish teams. Officiating at the event were one FIFA referee and three FLF (national). The games, which were played in two divisions, were covered by RTL national television. Medals were presented by Diana Nilles, current Miss Luxembourg.
An indoor tournament closed the European week. Special Olympics football players were divided into four teams and they were joined by media representatives of the national sports association (sportspress.lu).
