Little Nightingale in BOSNIA and HERZEGOVINA

(30 June 2009)

A star was born when Medina Causevica sang at the Opening Ceremonies at the Special Olympics national athletics competition held in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina in June 2009.  Causevica, 20, shy and petite, sang “My Song for Bosnia,” and received a thunderous round of applause from the audience. Her little nightingale voice delighted everyone.

Fate was not kind to Causevica who was abandoned as a child.  She was taken into care at the “Steps of Hope” Center.  There, the staff worked patiently and lovingly with her. At the center, Causevica discovered singing and she soon began to represent the center in musical performances. Physically fragile, it is hard to believe that this young girl could have such a powerful voice. Yet, when Causevica sings her shyness evaporates, the stage is hers and so are the hearts of everyone who hears her.
